“For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” Matthew 16v25.
Pippa Grange is a doctor of sports psychology and a culture coach working across elite sports and business internationally. She was Head of People and Team Development at the Football Association for two years and is credited with “transforming the mind-set” of the England football team at the 2018 World Cup.
She has written one of the many “How to” books available today, the intriguing title of which is” FEAR LESS: HOW TO WIN AT LIFE WITHOUT LOSING YOURSELF”.
Her theory is that “by starting to live with less fear, we can find better energy and deeper fulfilment.”
Her aim is “to show us how to replace fear with purpose, build quality relationships and find courage in our true voice. By determining what part of our lives incite fear, we can find a different way to win.”
The problem with “How to” books is that few of their authors believe in or take account of the Author of Life, their Creator, so we cannot afford to take them seriously. The author here, perhaps without realising it, has turned the teaching of Jesus on its head.
Jesus has died to save us so He has a rightful claim on our lives. Our lives are no longer our own, they belong to Him and He commands us to live for Him, whatever that may mean.
In contrast to the title of the book referred to above, we could propose the following as our aim:
“FEAR GOD: HOW TO LOSE YOUR LIFE AND FIND JESUS”.
Every blessing
Mark
