John was born in Derby but went away to school in Eastbourne and Bedford before studying Geography at Oxford. He then went to teach in Nigeria in a mission school for 2 years before teaching for 15 years in Gloucestershire,11 years in secondary, and after a year’s retraining, 4 years in a primary school.
Along with his wife Hilary, John then moved to Newtown to take up the junior post at Sarn for 3 years before becoming the head for 11 years. In 2006 he was offered early retirement as the school was closed.
John was fortunate to have Christian parents who prayed for him, and he gave his life to God at the age of 8 after being challenged by his Uncle. John was appointed a deacon in 1998 and became the Church’s treasurer in 2003.
John and Hilary have 4 grown children and 5 grandchildren. John enjoys photography, gardening, walking, cycling, and kayaking.
